We’ve had a relatively mild winter in Chicagoland so far. Yesterday, “Linus” finally arrived with the 5th largest snowstorm in Chicago’s history. Lara and I still remember the Groundhog Day Blizzard of 2011 while we are at Moody (#3 on the list), and decided to see how this one compared!
We have been meaning to put up some wedding photos in our hallway, so we sent some pictures to Walgreens to be picked up later in the day. You can’t really tell what a blizzard is like till you’re out walking in it, so we trekked by foot down to our local Walgreens about half a mile away.
We were happy to get back inside our warm house! Honestly, it was fairly mild here in Highland Park compared to other areas. O’Hare reports to have received 19.3 inches of snow (cancelling over 1,000 flights!) — we only (!) got about 10 inches by the time it was over. This morning the sun is out, the skies are clear, and everyone is out shoveling their driveway. It’s just a part of life!
Our Walgreens trip was a success, and we are now one step closer to a homier home.
I’ve been working on a series of botanical watercolors for our kitchen and finished those last night as well. I was inspired by writing a paper on the psalm of Habakkuk 3. The remaining piece for me to paint the Hebrew text of verses 17-18:
Though the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Because of dangerous road conditions due to the snowstorm, my class was canceled this morning, so I am home studying and cooking. I will head to work in the city in a couple hours, but for now, Hebrew and Ugaritic are keeping me company!
